When many readers balked at the lengthy wait times hungry ramen-philes were willing to hang around for soup at Mensho Ramen, a re-examination of food priorities was in order.
San Francisco is one city that apparently doesn’t mind waiting for its food, as long as that restaurant is able to guarantee that it’s “the best” or “unique” or … “droolworthy,” as foodies call it.
What’s still worthy of our time, standing around on the sidewalk, staring at our phones? SFGATE did the research and called restaurants for wait times, stood in a few of those lines and scoured Yelp reviews to determine what lines are still worth it.
What was discovered? Many of the lines are “all bark, no bite” meaning they look longer than they actually are. Others? Well, plenty have lived to tell the tale of two-hour plus waits at Mama’s or Brenda’s French Soul Food.
Has your line tolerance for food gone down? Are your standards for what you’re willing to wait for rising? Take a look at what spots are still holding down some of the longest wait times in the city and see if you think that wait is still worth it — and then listen to these tips from the front of house on how to avoid the crowds (as much as possible, anyway).
