There are plenty of factors to consider when looking for a place to live, especially in the pricey Bay Area real estate market. Among the many things to consider are school districts, the commute distance to work or cost of living.
Sifting through FBI Crime Report data on crimes such as homicides, assaults, robberies and car thefts (among others), and based on survey responses on each city. The company gave varying weights to each crime to get its ranking, for instance weighing assaults and robberies more heavily than, say, car thefts and burglaries per 100,000 residents. For the 2017 list, six Bay Area suburbs made the top 10 for California, an improvement from the 2016 rankings, which only featured five.
Among the top 50 suburbs named by Niche, 20 of them were located in the Bay Area, with Hillsborough grabbing the top spot for the state. The city doesn’t come cheap, however, with the the median home value reported at $2 million, and the average rent costs hitting approximately $2,800 per month.
