Old Devil Moon is open beer people in Bernal!

Bernal Heights is turning into beer’s newest hotspot. There’s already Old Bus Tavern and Standard Deviant Brewing, and as of today, August 30, Old Devil Moon is joining the pack. A group of certified cicerones (and, randomly, lawyers) have teamed up to bring a bar that’s very serious about its beer, yet also has an extremely playful side. Specifically, there’s an occult theme that extends to a fortune telling bartender and decor inspired by tarot decks, the freak show tent, and other magical elements. Designer Katie Gong added details like a fireplace with dripping candles and skulls, a skeletal cat in the bar, a chiromancer’s palm model near the door, and more, both inside and outside on the patio.

As for those beers, curated by owners Chris Cohen, Andrew Kelly, Ericka Schell, William Marshall, and Carson Beker, there’s a custom-build draft system with 19 flow-controlled Perlick beer faucets, a beer engine for a cask ale, and a limit of 20 rotating taps. Starting draft beers include pours from Almanac Beer Co., the nearby BareBottle Brew Co., Bruery Terreux, Ferment Drink Repeat, Fieldwork Brewing, Firestone Walker Brewing, and more. Beyond beer, there’s a full liquor license with a focus on rum, whiskey, and local liquors. Fernet Francisco, Sutton Cellars vermouth, and Old Grand Dad Bonded rye whiskey are all on draft, too. The full drink list is below.

Accompanying food from consulting chef Charlie Kleinmen focuses on a variety of po’boys — fried oyster, roast beef, more — using local ingredients from Paulie’s Pickling, Pinkie’s Bakery, and Avedano’s Meats. See the full food menu below.

Old Devil Moon is now open from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Food is served weekdays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. on weekends.
