AVOID SF FARMERS MARKETS and other saving tips whilst living in the Bay Area

It’s no secret that living in the Bay Area is rough on the checkbook.

We pay for the privilege of living here, that’s for sure. And after decades of life in the Bay, many of us here at SFGATE have come up with little and big ways to save money.

One of our favorite tips? Make sure you check the PG&E website to check their rate plans. There are special plans — like the time-of-use plan that prices your usage based on the time of day, week or season you use electricity — that can save you thousands of dollars per year. For electric car users, there’s also a special electric vehicle rate plan.

But not every tip is a massive money saver. Saving a dollar here or there can really add up over time too. Free museum days, ways to drink cheap(er) and commute discounts are all easy ways to save money throughout the week.
